Sometimes news is surprising, sometimes it’s what you expected. When the weather prediction is rain on a Saturday when you planned to do some hang gliding, you shrug and make it an afternoon of beers and the Bourne trilogy.
When the news is IE6 to IE8 web application compatibility may be preventing enterprises from deploying Windows 7, Microsoft takes note and looks around to see how they can lean on their extensive partner community to help.
App-DNA, a pioneer in application compatibility for Windows 7 migrations and application virtualization projects, is now also helping enterprises IE8 compatibility issues for web applications. In an ongoing survey for qualification into the App-DNA IE8 application compatibility beta program, enterprises and partners shared their web application testing concerns and remediation experience.
One somewhat surprising result was a significant number of respondents (24%) said they were holding off on a Windows deployment until IE8 hurdles were cleared due to the high dependency on web applications for users in their organization. This signals that web application compatibility is a very real challenge to 1 out of every 4 respondents.
Adding to that, a very large number –41% — are planning to combine IE8 and Windows 7 projects. Tackling the hurdle of web application compatibility alongside traditional application testing and remediation is the plan for many organizations that need an aligned rollout for critical line of business applications—whether they are web-based or MSI, EXE or other formats.
